Study of parent-school collabration activities which are implemented in preschool education institutions on the base of parent opinions

In the period of preschool education, parent-school collabration is more important than every educational period. Because preschool period is admitted as the most important and critical period of the human life. The education in this period plays great role in making oneself ready for life as a successful, healthy, compatible and happy adult. Development, education and determining the necessities of children, who are the future of a country, can only be achieved by healthy parent ? school collabration.Parent-school collabration activities held in preschool institutions have great importance in the points of easy adaptation of children to school, complimentary qualification of family and school education to each other, prevention of different attitudes to child in home and school enviroment and multiple contribution of these activities to child development.This study is accomplished to study the parent-school collabration activities, which are implemented in preschool education institutions on the base of parent opinions.The study was carried out in survey method and conducted with 403 parents whose children attend to 20 preschool education institutions of The National Education Ministry in Eskişehir in 2006-2007 academic year.As a data collection instrument in this study, a questionnaire, which is prepared by the researcher and consists of 23 questions, was appiled in order to determine the opinions of parents about parent-school collabration activities held in preschool institutions.Firstly, the answers of the questionnaire are transfered to the computer for research data solution. ?SPSS 13.0 for Windows? computer program was used for statistical analysis research data. The statistical analysis of data collected, frequency and percentage calculations are completed and presented by tables.As a result of this study, it is clear that the most often activity applied by the school administration is face to face interview with parents, whereas telephone call, conferences and seminars, home visits, wish-complaint box and family meetings are never organized. In order to provide parent-school collabration, little work is being done by the families. It is observed that parents usually try to contribute the organizations of parent-school collabration, they attend to parent meetings and interviews when teacher wants. Morever, it is determined that parents state lack of time as a reason for not participating in the parent-school collabration activities. For the teacher?s attitude, parents declare that relationship between teacher and family has respect, trust, tolarence and sensibility to each other, teacher welcomes them smiling and has always time to interview with parents. According to findings of the research, it can be said that parent-school collabration applied by the school administration is partly satisfactory and parent-school collabration applied by the families is unsatisfactory. Besides, it is seen that parents expect the institution to informe them about the child?s development period and they wish hope better communication between teacher, parents and child.
