An investigation of quality of activities in preschool education (The case of Diyarbakır)

The application of the preschool education program is realized through activities. Some of the most common activities in preschools include Turkish, art, drama, music, movement, play, science, mathematics, preparation for literacy and field trips are among these headings; includes dramatic play, technology, science and nature, promoting acceptance of diversity, fine motor skills and blocks activities. This study was conducted to examine the quality of activities in pre-school education. Factors determining the quality of activities in preschool education are stated in general and for each activity separately. The related literature has been examined. As a result of the examinations, the activities were evaluated in terms of the effectiveness of the activities of teachers, materials, and activities. The sample of the study consists of 10 independent kindergartens (anaokulu) and 10 dependent kindergartens (anasınıfı) randomly selected in Diyarbakır. In the data collection stage of the study, the "Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale-3 (ECERS-3)'' Learning Activities sub-dimension was used. In the data analysis of the study, the total quality scores of 10 AO and 10 AS activities were compared by Mann-Whitney U test. As a result of the study, no statistically significant difference was found between AO and AS in terms of the quality of activities. In activities, only'' Math Materials and Activities'', AS was found to have higher scores than AO (p <.05). The related suggestions were offered in line with the deficiencies detected in the activities. Keywords: Preschool education, activities, quality of activities
