Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the number abilities of the 5-year-old group children, continuing their pre-school education, according to some variables. In the study; the effect of the variables placed in "Child Information Form" like gender, age, duration of pre-school education, parental education status, parental age status, maternal employment status, socio-economic level, birth order, number of siblings, condition of the elder sibling in school age, on the variable of number abilities is investigated. The study is based on two phases. The first phase of the study is carried out as adaptation work for Form A, one of two parallel forms of "Early Numeracy Test-Revised (ENT-R)" developed by Prof. Dr. J. E. H. van Luit ve Dr. Bernadette A. M. Van de Rijt. In this phase, the study of linguistic equivalence, validity and reliability is conducted for Form A, which is one of the two paralel forms of Early Numeracy Test-Revised. The universe of the study was formed by the children in the 5-year-old group who continued to the 3 different independent kindergartens affiliated to the Ministry of National Education of Buca county in İzmir province in the academic year of 2017-2018. In the implemented groups, KR-20 for a total of 45 items with a total score of .905 and a Spearman correlation coefficient of .896 and a Guttman coefficient of .867 are found for the reliability of the Form A, one of two parallel forms of "Early Numeracy Test-Revised (ENT-R)" scale scores. The calculations show that the internal consistency of the test is high. Scope validity is examined by expert opinion, structure validity and the distinctive power of the test is calculated for (ENT-R) Form A validation studies. At the end of the statistical analyzes, ENT-R Form A is accepted as valid and reliable for the 5 years old group children. The sampling of the validity and reliability study of the research consist of 203 children who are chosen by random sampling method. In the second phase, number abilities of the 50 children which are chosen by random sampling method among the 5 years old group pre-school children are examined in the aspect of some variables with Early Numeracy Test-Revised Form A within the appropriate limits of the validity and reliability in the result of the adaptation study. At the end of the research, no significant difference is observed through the whole test or subdimensions in the children's number skills who are implemented Early Numeracy Test-Revised Form A according to the variables of gender, duration of pre-school education, father education status, father's age, socio-economic level and condition of the elder sibling in school age. Children's number skills show significant differences according to the variables of age, maternal educational status, maternal employment status, mother's age, birth order and number of siblings.
