Investigation of the opinionstowards developed story creation software for pre-school education

This study aims to assess expert, student and parent views on the iOS based digital storytelling software that was developed for science and nature lesson activities in pre-school education with qualitative research method. ADDIE model for software development was adopted for the developing process. The software was programmed on XCode using the Objective-C programming languageand to be used on iPads. The mobile software allows preschoolers to create, save and present their digital stories. On the story creating page of the software there are tools that allow; importing image from library, voice recording, free drawing and taking photographs. The software was screened and evaluated frequently by experts through the developing process, using an evaluation form that was also developed by the researcher and necessary changes were made accordingly. In the application process, the software was used by five pre-school students in four different digital storytelling activities through four weeks. After four weeks of instruction the students and their parents were asked to evaluate the software, instruction and the process via a semi-constructed interview form. The data that was collected from the interview was analyzed and used for improvements on the software. The study was conducted as a case study, a method of qualitative research. As a result; student, parent and expert views on the software promote that the developed digital storytelling software is socially, psychologically and cognitively appropriate for preschoolers. As the users could manage to include audio, image and other storytelling materials into their digital stories easily, both preschooler and parent participants stated that they enjoyed the course and the process and found it to be very efficient.
