The effect of multicultural personality on multicultural education in early childhood education teachers and preservice teachers

An examination of the effects of multicultural personality of preschool and preservice teachers on attitudes toward multicultural education Past five years, the migrations from Middle East countries have led to increased diversities in Turkish society. During preschool education, which is the time of core values gaining, the attitude of preschool teachers about being tolerant of and having respect to the diversities has an important role in terms of being a role model for children. In this context, the aim of this study is to examine the effects of multicultural personality of preschool and preservice teachers on the attitudes of multicultural education. Emphasizing the importance and need of multicultural education for preschool education composes the sub goals of the study. In accordance with these purposes, in order to examine the effects of multicultural personality of preschool and preservice teachers on attitudes of multicultural education, relational screening model was used. The data, which is obtained from 174 preschool and 350 preservice teachers was analyzed by Pearson Product–Moment Correlation and Multiple Regression methods in order to determine the level and direction of the relation between multicultural personality and multicultural education, and the findings showed a positive linear relation. As a result, a medium level relation between multicultural personality and multicultural education and the sub-dimensions of multicultural personality as a predictor of 39% multicultural education attitudes have been found. Additionally, preschool teachers' level of multicultural personality and multicultural education attitudes have also been found higher than preservice teachers.
