The relationship between pre-school teachers? understandings of discipline and internal-external control focuses

Reaching the desired goals of education is related to the teacher?s adequacy not only in terms of education but also classroom management. The quality of education increases parallel to the quality of the teacher?s behavioral management in the classroom. .Teacher must be not only the person who teaches but also a good administrator.At the same time,the teachers? personal qualitiees and the reflection of this to education progress are the subjests whisch should ne inguired. In this survey, the relationship between initially disciplinary understanding (mentality) which is a dimension effecting preschool teachers? behavioral attitutes towards students and control focusses which is one of the important personal dimensions are inguired.The research is a quantitative work and data was collected in pursuance of related search method. The sample of the work consists of totally 95 schools and 145 teachers in Çanakkale city and provinces in the academic year of 2008-2009. .Testing materials used in the research : personal information form which consists of 7 questions fort he purpose of determining of teachers? personal qualities (gender ,merital status,number of children,seniority,students? age group,number of students, education level ); ?Teacher Discipline Understanding Scale? developed by Ö.F. Şimşek (2000), ?Rotter?s Interior-Exterior Control Focus Scale? adapted into Turkish by İ. Dağ (2002) controlled in terms of validity and reliability. The results of the research findings indicate discipline understandings of the preschool teachers differentiate according to the education levels. In other terms, the more the preschool teachers? education levels are, the more democratic their understanding of discipline are . Discipline understanding doesn?t differentiate according to other personal qualities.Another finding which was found out at the end of the research is the relationship between the focus of control and understanding of discipline. According to this result, the teachers with interior control focus have democratic attitute in their understanding of discipline.
