Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to examine the relationship between self-esteem and political skills according to the views of administrators working in public schools. In the research, 235 administrators working in public primary, secondary and high schools in Kepez, Muratpaşa, Konyaaltı, Döşemealtı and Aksu districts of Antalya province were consulted for their opinions. The "Political Skill Inventory", which was developed by Ferris et al. (2005) and adapted to Turkish by Özdemir and Göran (2015), was used to determine the political skills of school administrators. The "Rosenberg "Self-Esteem Scale" developed by M. Rosenberg (1965) and adapted into Turkish by Füsun Çuhadaroğlu (1986) was used in order to determine their self-esteem. In the research, the "Relational Screening Method", one of the quantitative research methods, was used, and a survey was conducted as a data collection tool. IBM SPSS 20 program was applied for the analysis of the data obtained from school administrators. Percentage and frequency were used to display the distributions related to the demographic and professional characteristics of school administrators. "T-Test" and "One-Way Analysis of Variance" (ANOVA) was utilized for independent sampling in the research of the differentiation of the scores obtained by school administrators from the sub-dimensions of the problem according to their demographic and occupational characteristics. In addition, "Correlation Analysis" was used to determine the relationship between self-esteem and political skills; and "Simple Regression Analysis Test" was used to determine the prediction status. As a result, it was found that there is a statistically significant and positive relationship between the self-esteem and political skill levels of school administrators. It was also seen that self-esteem levels significantly predicted the political skill levels of school administrators and explained 20% of the total variance. It was observed that while there was a significant difference in the self-esteem levels of school administrators according to the gender and school level variable, no significant difference was found according to the other variables. It was observed that while there was a significant difference in the political skill levels of the school administrators according to the educational status variable, no significant difference was observed according to the other variables.
