The relationship between transformational leadership characteristics and political skills of school administrators

Today, developments in technology and science have caused the expectations of individuals from society and society from individuals to change. While this change has manifested itself in many areas, one of the areas most affected by this has undoubtedly been educational institutions. In line with changing expectations and needs, teachers have also started new searches for school administrators in the society education system. One of these searches has been school administrators who motivate them to adapt to changes and provide the necessary environment. At this point, it is also necessary to investigate the leadership characteristics and skills that school administrators think are necessary for their institutions to adapt to change and innovation in this process. In this context, the aim of the research is to examine the relationship between the transformational leadership characteristics and political skills of school administrators according to the perceptions of teachers working in different types of public institutions in Ergani district of Diyarbakır province. The universe of the study, in which the relational screening model was used, consists of teachers working in official primary, secondary and high schools in Ergani district of Diyarbakır province in the 2024-2025 Academic Year. The sample of the study consists of 404 teachers working in official institutions in Ergani. In collecting the data of the study, Personal Information Form consisting of three sections, Transformational Leadership Scale (TLS) and Political Skills Scale (PSS) were used. The collected data were first converted into Excel tables in the computer environment and then SPSS 22.0 package program was used, and Skewness and Kurtosis tests were performed to check the normality of the distributions. When the findings of the study were examined; it was seen that the perception levels of teachers regarding the transformational leadership characteristics and political skills of school administrators were high in the general scale. In the study, it was determined that the variables of marital status, branch, and school type did not create a significant difference in the general scale. It has been determined that there is a positive and low-level significant relationship between the transformational leadership characteristics of school principals and their political skills, and that political skill variables predict the dependent variable, transformational leadership perception, at a statistically significant level.
