Abstract (EN)
Education is highly significant for the future of nations. Primary schools, particularly, provide a basis for education; also they have important responsibilities such as preparing children for life and higher education in accordance with their talents, by bringing them core knowledge, skill and behavior. The biggest role to enable the primary schools achieve their objectives belongs to the teachers and headmasters who work in these schools. All education officers should take responsibilities in order to increase the quality of education, in our developing nation as well.Schools? efficiencies largely depend on the efficiency of their headmasters. Positive or negative effects of the behaviors of headmasters upon the teachers shall affect teachers? performances and commitments. Since the education process is extended over a long period of time, it is not possible to observe students? behavioral outputs instantly and precisely that result from teachers? negative manners and behaviors. This explains how important the performances and commitments of teachers and headmasters are.The main purpose of this research is to compare the commitments of teachers and the efficiencies of headmasters serving in the primary schools in Istanbul?s Bağcılar district and to evaluate the results of the comparison according to various variables.During the research made with the teachers serving in the primary schools in Istanbul?s Bağcılar district in 2011-2012 education year, 295 teachers have been reached. The data, collected along with ?Personal Information Form?, ?Allen-Meyer Scale of Organizational Commitment? and ?Rating Scale for Efficiency of Headmasters?, have been analyzed via SPSS Programme.Consequently, as the organizational commitment levels of the teachers comprising the sample group increased, headmasters? efficiencies also increased. Also, according to the collected data, the organizational commitment levels of class teachers are higher than the branch teachers.Key words: Efficiency of Headmasters, Organizational Commitment.
