The relationship between the types of power school administrators use and teachers' intention to quit

The aim of this study is to determine whether there is a relationship between the types of force used by school admistrators and the teachers' turnover intention, and if so, to determine the direction and level of this relationship. The research was carried out with the survey model. The population of the research consists of 1,281 teachers working in 209 primary schools in Siirt province and Kurtalan, Baykan and Şirvan districts in 2019-2020 academic year. The sample of the study consists of 425 teachers selected according to the stratified sampling method. In this research "Types of Power that School Administrators Use Scale" and "Turnover Intention Scale" were used. The research data were analyzed with the SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) program. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, one-way Anova, correlation and regression analysis techniques were used to analyze the data. According to the results of the research, it was determined that the perception level of teachers about the types of power used by school administrators was high and their turnover intention was low. It was determined that there are statistically significant differences in the independent variables used in the research for determining the relationship between school administrators and teachers' turnover intention. In the study, it was found that teachers' turnover intention was low-level negative with reward and expertise, negative-low-level relationship with charismatic power, positive-low-level with legal power, and positive-medium-level-significant relationship with coercive power. In addition, it was concluded that the sub-scales of power types; legal, reward, charismatic, expertise and coercive power explained 22% of the variance of the intention to leave.
