Teacher' opinions on communication skills and organizational commitment in schools

Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to examine teachers' opinions regarding communication skills and organizational commitment in schools. In the research communication is defined as people coming together to create collective consciousness within the organization and trying to adapt to their environment, addresses the effect of organizational commitment, which is the subject of different studies on employees. Teacher's opinions regarding communication skills and organizational commitment in schools are discussed. Qualitative method was used in this research and the research was designed according to a case study. The study group of the research was determined according to the purposeful sampling technique and the participants include 21 teachers working in a public and private school affiliated with the Ministry of National Education in Istanbul in the academic year 2023-2024. The data collection tool of the research is semi-structured interview questions created by the researcher. In the analysis of the data, findings were obtained according to content analysis and descriptive analysis. In the research findings, according to teachers' opinions, the categories of effective communication, giving feedback and listening skills emerged in communication skills in schools. Internalization, identification and adaptation emerged as categories in organizational commitment. When teachers' opinions regarding communication skills and organizational commitment within the school were examined, codes of effective communication, respect and trust emerged in both. According to the research results, it was found that administrators believe that teachers' motivation and commitment to the school increases when an effective communication environment is provided, a friendly atmosphere is created in the school and misunderstandings are not allowed in the school. In this context, it has been argued that administrators ensuring equal administrative justice and taking teachers' opinions into account when making these decisions increases teachers' commitment to the school.
