They show cis-trans isomerisation upon UV-irradiation resulting in a strong influence on theabsorption behaviour of the molecule. This effect may find application in newmaterials for optical memories, wave guide switching and information transducers.One necessary condition for a successful utilization of such materials is theirprocessability, that means, they should be fibre or film forming. Azo phenolhomopolymers with functional groups such as -CN, -CH3O, -SO3 and -COOH at thepara position were prepared by enzyme catalyzed polymerization.Key Words : Azobenzenes, HomopolymerII
