Abstract (EN)
Our study is aimed at finding effects of a special exercise program (involving quadriceps muscle strengthening, extremity elasticity and coordination), which is provided in addition to the regular training program, on physical fitness and pain in sportsmen suffering from anterior knee pain. In our study, 15 cases with anterior knee pain complaints, from Çankaya University Sports Club Boys Team, composed the research group, while 15 health cases made up the control group. The groups were administered anthropometric measurements, muscular strength tests and shortness tests. Group?s severity of pain was assessed by visual analog scale and levels of physical activity by Lower Extremity Functional Scale; and further Q angle measurements were made. A significant difference was found between pain, quadriceps strength and functional activity values of the research group before and after the the training program (p<0.05). No significant difference was found between the groups in terms of their peripheral measurement, shortness tests and Q angle values before and after the training program. While a significant difference was found between the groups in their pain, quadriceps strength and functional activity values before the training program (p<0.05), there was no significant difference after the training program (p>0.05). While research group has lower quadriceps strength and functional activity values and higher pain values than the control group before the training, their muscular strength and functional activity values were found higher and pain levels lower following the training program. To conclude, training programs applied to sportsmen suffering from anterior knee pain were found to have positive effects on physical fitness and pain.
