Torsional wave propagation in the pre-stressed compound circular cylinders

Abstract (EN)

It is well known that initial stress can occur in construction materials for many reasons. Investigating the effect of those kinds of stresses on wave propagation is very important in theory and application. The research presented in this thesis studies the effect of initial stresses on wave propagation in pre-stressed compound cylinder, in particular the dispersion of the torsional waves on pre-stretched compound cylinder. In the present study, within the framework of the piecewise homogeneous body model with the use of the three-dimensional linearized theory of elastic waves in initially stressed body, the torsional wave propagation in the pre-stressed compound, hollow compound and many layered cylinders are investigated. The influence of the initial stresses to the torsional wave propagation is investigated for geometrical and physical parameters. It is assumed that the elasticity relations of the materials of the cylinders? components are given through the Murnaghan potential. For a special case, the cylinders that were made of linear elastic materials were also investigated. For particular cases, the result obtained by the other research studies for the compound and hollow compound cylinders without initial stresses are also attained again. Furthermore, these results are developed for the compound cylinders with initial stresses. The algorithms and software programs that are used to obtain a large amount of new numerical results are developed by the author in Fortran programming language. The research presented herein are the first attempt to investigate torsional wave propagation in pre-stressed compound cylinders.
