Various medical treatments' that applied to oncology patients effects on nutritional status and anxiety levels

Abstract (EN)

All data (The information on patient demographics and disease, anthropometric measurements, biochemical parameters) that obtained from patient files and patient monitoring is recorded to the survey forms during treatment. Anthropometric measurements of patients and some biochemical parameters taken from the patient's file, Nutritional status of patients was determined by the using Patient-generated subjective global assessment (PG-SGA) and 3-days food consumption record methods on the beginning and end of the treatment. Beck Depression Inventory is applied by doctor on the beginning and end of the treatment for determine the anxiety level of patients. The average age of the patients is 58±13.50 years in this study. 38.0% of patients breast cancer, 12.0% of patients lung cancer, 10.0% of patients colon cancer, 8.0% patients pancreatic cancer, 8.0% of patients gastric carcinoma, 2.0% of patients liver cancer, 6.0% of bladder cancer, 8.0% of testicular cancer, 4.0% of patients laryngeal cancer, 2.0% of patients esophageal cancer, 2.0% of patients prostate cancer were diagnosed as. In 48% of patients, there is a direct metastasis to the another area from outside their cancer tissue. Distribution of patients; 22.0% of patients are in the 1st. stage, 30.0% of patients are in the 2nd. stage, 16.0% of patients are in the 3rd. stage, 32.0% of patients are in the 4th. stageis as and 64.0% of patients has experienced surgery. 24.0% chemotherapy, 12.0% chemotherapy+radiotherapy, 42.0% surgery+chemotherapy, 22.0% surgery+chemotherapy+radiotherapy has been applied to the patients as a treatment method. The avarage Body Mass Index (BMI) of patients is determined 27.11±4.86 kg/m2 at the beginning and 26.61±4.91 kg/m2 at the end. 18.0% of patients in beginning of the treatment, 24.0% of patients in end of the treatment stated that poor appetite. The most common complications include abdominal gas (44.0%), constipation (36.0%), and decreased appetite (30.0%). According to the Beck Depression Inventory 4.2% of female patients and %3.8 of male patients is in severe depression at the beginning of treatment while 8.3% of female patients and 15.4% of male patients is in severe depression at the end of treatment. These changes were found statistically significant between the genders on period from beginning of the treatment to the end (p<0.05). According to PG-SGA 54.2% of female patients, 69.2% of male patients need a dietitian intervention at the beginning of treatment while 50.0% of female patients, 61.5% of male patients need a dietitian intervention at the beginning of treatment was founded. These changes were not found statistically significant between the genders on period from beginning of the treatment to the end (p>0.05). Before the cancer treatment 3 days average energy consumption is 1127 ± 326.52 kcal while it is determined as 293.30 ± 1104 kcal after the treatment for female patients. Before the cancer treatment 3 days average energy consumption is 1343±569.3 kcal while it is determined as 1166±495.9 kcal after the treatment for male patients.
