Özet (EN)

Various theories and ideas have been put forward on the character, which is one of the important elements of the narrative. Aristotle's view that the character is in the background remained in the background after the 19th century, along with the view that the character directs the plot. Different theories have been developed about the character's actions that change the plot. Onur Ünlü, who stands out with his unique cinema, is a director who deals with certain themes through the characters in his films. The characters in Onur Ünlü's films draw attention due to the diversity of their actions and their dialogues. The characters in Onur Ünlü's films take unexpected actions due to their emotional desires and to reach a higher status. This study emerged due to the necessity of examining the main characters in Onur Ünlü's selected films with a holistic and detailed study. Öktem Başol's theory that the character's actions are based on purpose, action and conflict constitutes the mainstay of the study. Başol indicates that the character is based on the action. The character sets out for a purpose, goes through various conflicts and takes actions to achieve his/her goal. In the selected films, the actions of the prominent characters, the purpose of performing these actions, the obstacles they encounter while acting in line with these goals, and the internal and external conflicts they experience are determined. The study is important in terms of determining the reasons for the emergence of a character's actions in movies and providing resources for future studies. Keywords: Character, Purpose, Action, Conflict, Cinema.
