Pricing policies in organic agriculture products: A survey in Eskişehir

Abstract (EN)

As the speed of competition has been increased lately to a great extend both internally and externally, the entities have begun to use their resources more effectively. By means of competition, the most crucial factor for the entities is price. In order to make profit, entities use the price factor against the external environment. If the entities are able to use this factor effectively, they get great profits from it. At this point, we come across with the pricing policies. Whether an entity uses the pricing policy effectively depends on it?s ability for choosing the most suitable pricing policy for the entity itself and for the internal (domestic) and external market.Lately, each society is becoming more conscious. According to the raising awareness of the societies, both living a healthy life and being more sensitive while selecting nutrients are the outcomes of this raising consciousness. At this point, organic products come to the fore. Organic agricultural products leave the other agricultural products behind. However, it is a reality that those products cannot compete with other agricultural products at some points. The top point and the most crucial one is its high prices according to its high costs.In this study, the pricing policies that can be applied to the organic products, mentioned above, are dealt with. The role of price on organic agricultural products is analyzed. Regarding this matter, the possible pricing policies are set forth. This study is a starting step to the probable studies in pricing of the organic agricultural products. There are few studies about this subject in the literature. To this respect, this thesis is an important resource in this field.The study consists of three sections. In the first section, the term, organic agriculture and the system of organic agriculture is dealt with. Organic agriculture and convectional agriculture are compared and the points where they differ from each other are analyzed.In the second section, price, pricing policies and pricing in exporting are broadly handled. Additionally, by mentioning the pricing policies in organic agriculture, detailed information about the subject is given.In the third and the last section, the extend between the pricing policies of the organic agricultural products existing in theory and the pricing policies in practical use of the organic agricultural products are corresponded to each other is tried to be presented with a qualitative analyze. In order to ascertain the pricing policies properly in the study, the research that took place in the study is divided in three parts. First, contact with the head institute of these agricultural system regulators is established and their attitude towards the issue is revealed. Secondly, interviews are made with the farmers that cultivate the products and bring out the products to the market. Finally, interviews are made with the consumers using those products.In the study, data?s are collected by doing case and contexts analysis. In the light of the collected data, findings are evaluated after being analyzed.
