Abstract (EN)

In the recent years, wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) have been accepted "factors" to cause climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs) to be carbondioxide (CO2), nitrous oxide (N2O) and methane (CH4). GHGs are caused the electric consumption, treatment process, sludge treatment, transportation and chemical consumption in the WWTPs. Purpose of this thesis is the optimization and estimation of GHG emissions from a mixed WWTP of an organized industrial district located in Tekirdag city using ECAM web tool that was developed by IWA WaCCliM working group. This thesis analyzed the occurrence of GHGs in two sections. The GHG emissions are compared versus different months. The highest CO2 emission was estimated to be 226.573 kgCO2eq/month in December 2019 that was caused due to the increased wastewater flow and loadings. The highest emissions in summer months were observed to be 195.174 kgCO2eq/month in July 2019. The results of this work show that major factors affecting GHGs are electrical consumption and sludge management. For reducing the GHG emissions it is recommended to use renewable energy sources and to decrease quantity of sludge in the WWTP. It can be concluded that the ECAM web tool that is quick and focusing on solution, can be used for the estimation of GHG emissions in industrial WWTPs.
