Shared and learned values, norms, believes, behaviours and symbols which are known as organization culture; is a holistic element that describes organizational aims and helps organization members to understand organizational objectives within and beyond the organizational environment. From this point of view, succesfull firms have to establish an organization which is powerful and unique in their organizational cultures.With rising crisis and challengeful market conditions, firms are facing with downsizing and restructuration problems. At this point, human factor becomes important for the organization?s success and productivity. It is accepted that, firms can increase the productivity and efficiency of its human resource as increasing the commitment of its members. To be adaptive and strong, organizations which operate in fast changing and challengeful market conditions, need to have skilled work power with high organizational commitment.It is observed that under different environmental conditions, organizations have different kinds of cultural identities. Also, different organization culture types may cause different levels of organizational commitment. The aim of this reseach is to investigate the effect of organization culture on organizational commitment within the academic staff of universities in Izmir, Turkey.At the conclusion, the research had been expressed that clan and adhocracy cultures have a discriminating effect on affective commitment, seperating it into high and low affective commitment groups while not having a discriminating effect on continuance and normative commitment.
