Structural analysis of novel and the intellectual structure of Orhan Pamuk?s Snow

The current study reviews the novel ?Kar" (The Snow) by Orhan Ferit Pamut, a Turkish writer giving works with post-modernist concept in Turkish literature in recent years.In the novel in which Kars has been selected as scenery, the scenery is not only a city where a love story is told but also it serves as a little representation of State of Turkish Republic. Thus, a number of social, political and economical events presumed to occur in Kars are actually reflection of several processes that Turkey has been experiencing.The novel ?Kar?, which is the first and last political novel of the writer is a novel written with a post-modernist concept in which an intertextual language has so much been used. Being the first Turkish writer with Nobel Literature Award, Orhan F. Pamuk tries to reflect identity searches and conflicts of the people in his works among a fiction containing such concepts as the state, language, religion, terror, East-West, etc.In the current study, the novel ?Kar? was reviewed under two headings as structural analysis and intellectual structure. The section of structural analysis contains summary, case, cast, scenery, time, narrator and view of sight, language and style. In the second section named intellectual structure, we reviewed the novel in terms of reflections, use and fictionalization of political and social events to the novel based on the data from the first section. Finally, we drew some conclusion as to such issues as what literal characteristics the novel has and the extent to which post-modernism was applied in the novel.In the bibliography section of our thesis, we noted the references from which we utilized.Key words: Orhan Pamuk, Nobel, novel, postmodernism, ıntertextuality, metafiction.
