Abstract (EN)

Orhan Pamuk is an author, who has received many awards in Turkey and abroad including the NOBEL Prize, and a person whose fame passed our borders and became known worldwide. Despite all his success, there have been only a few academic researches about him, in his motherland. Furthermore, many of those academic researches that have been made so far were by those who are not necessarily from the field of Turkish Language and Literature. Despite the fact that there have been academic researches on Orhan Pamuk's novels, novel writing and problems and questions raised in his novels, there has not been any research on İstanbul a city that he used in his novels as a setting and a theme. We wanted to help to improve such lack of research by working on our thesis titled as "İstanbul in Orhan Pamuk's Novels" which discovers the author who used İstanbul and the lifestyle in the city as a theme in his novels. It is very important, for our literature, that there should be much more academic research done on Orhan Pamuk who uses İstanbul in his novels so often. We hope that our work will help encourage similarly themed researches. Key Words: Orhan Pamuk, Contemporary Turkish Literature, İstanbul, Novel, Setting.
