Productivity anaysis of front-end loader in forest harvesting operations

The loading operation has an important function in production of the forest products without any problems. In this thesis, the productivity of front-end loader, which is one of the most used mechanized harvesting equipment in the production of forest products, was analyzed. Factors influencing loader productivity were evaluated by statistical analysis. Time measurements were carried out during forest harvesting operations in Topçam Forest Enterprise Chief, Mesudiye Forest Enterprise Directorate, Giresun Forestry Regional Directorate. In this study, the productivity values of the front-end loader (Liebherr L 514 Stereo), used for loading a truck located on the landing area, were determined by the time study method. The results indicated that the most time-consuming stage of the loading operation was the time for the loader to go to the side of the truck, followed by the time for the loader to arrive the side of the product. According to the results, the average productivity of the loading with a loader was 34.27 m3/hr. Correlation test results showed that there was a positive correlation between productivity and log diameter and volume, while there was no significant relationship between productivity and log length. It was found that the regression model developed with respect to the loader's productivity and log diameter and volume was significant and adequately explained the productivity of the loader. It was found that there was a significant relation between diameter classes and volume classes and productivity values, and loader productivity increased in parallel with diameter and volume increase.
