Chepni settlement in the Mediterranean at the Middle Age (Chetmi villages example in Western Tauros)

The events in the Mediterranean, in the Middle Age, have a major effect on the formation of today's demographic structure. Undoubtedly, the influence of Turks on the formation of the demographics of that new world, raiding Anatolia in the Middle Age, and making the Mediterranean basin their homeland for good, is profound. The Oghuz, who established large states among Turkic tribes and always carried the name of Turk proudly, is the Turkic tribe constituting the basis of this movement of migration and invasion of the Mediterranean. It is known that the Oghuz, composed of 24 tribes, classified the tribes according to their abilities within the state system and these tribes were used in some cases. What constitutes the core of our thesis is the Chepni. Turkic migrations, which would radically alter the demographic structure of the Mediterranean and continued up to the end of the Middle Ages, were made possible by many wars and invasions. One cannot think that the Oghuz, who flocked to Anatolia, were free from the Chepni, noted for their warlike characteristics. It is known that the Chepni tribe was settled in almost every part of medieval Anatolia. The research on the Chepni, taking on critical missions in the conquest of particularly the Black Sea region by the Turks in the Middle Age, is seen to usually center on these regions. However, the Chepni settled Anatolia, in each part at different times. The investigation of this Oghuz tribe, effective in the Turkification of these regions, is of great importance in terms of the history of the Mediterranean and Türkiye. Our research will be on the settling of a group of the Chepni in Anatolia, known as Chetmi throughout the Mediterranean Middle Ages. The research will include the history of the Chetmi village in the Western Taurus Mountains, why the term Chepni was used as Chetmi, reasons for the establishment of this village in the region, located on top of the Taurus Mountains, the existence of other villages in the vicinity, and the passed down information about people currently residing this area.
