Estimation of interleukin-1β and lipid profile levels in iraqi patients infected with helicobacter pylori in the Middle Firats Region

Helicobacter pylori plays a role in the pathogenesis of many gastrointestinal disorders on a global scale and leads to the development of gastric cancer by causing chronic inflammation. Various cytokines play a role in both the onset and prolonged presence of this inflammation. Interleukin-1β has an important role in the initiation and intensification of inflammation. Therefore, this study, which aimed to evaluate IL-1β and lipid profiles, was conducted at Maysan Teaching Hospital in Iraq between July and December 2023. An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method was used to measure IL-1β levels in blood and an automated biochemical analyser was used to measure lipid profile. A significant difference was found in serum IL-1β and lipid profile levels between H. pylori positive and negative infection, while a non-significant difference was found between both groups according to age. According to gender, there was a significant difference between both groups only in IL-1β serum levels. Moreover, almost all the examined markers showed significant differences between the study groups according to the same sex group. In conclusion, IL-1β played an important role in the pathogenesis of H. pylori. In addition, infection with this bacterium showed a greater impact on the metabolism of lipid profiles, especially in patients with long-term persistent infection.
