Examination of sub-text questions and activities in Turkish literature lesson book 10th grade of secondary education within the framework of multiple intelligence theory

In this study, to what extent the multiple intelligence theory was applied on the sub-text questions and activities in 10th grade Turkish Literature lesson book prepared according to 2005 Secondary Education Turkish Literature Lesson Program was introduced. The study was formed around two general purposes: (a) How are the sub-text questions included in 10th grade Turkish Literature lesson book are distributed to areas of intelligence? (b) How are the activities included in 10th grade Turkish Literature lesson book are distributed to areas of intelligence?In the study, document investigation which is one of the qualitative research methods was used and, as the data source, 10th grade Turkish Literature lesson book was selected. All sub-text questions and activities included in 10th grade Turkish Literature lesson book formed the sample group of the study.The study investigated the sub-text questions and activities with regard to the intelligence areas of the multiple intelligence theory; and linguistic intelligence, logical-mathematical intelligence, musical intelligence, spatial intelligence, interpersonal intelligence, intrapersonal intelligence, bodily intelligence and naturalistic intelligence areas were determined as intelligence areas. Distribution of all sub-text questions and activities included in 10th grade Turkish Literature lesson book to intelligence areas were analyzed by percentage and presented in tabular form.In conclusion, it was determined that, of all sub-text questions included in 10th grade Turkish Literature lesson book prepared in the light of Curricula 2005, 60,7% were oriented to linguistic intelligence, 11,3% to spatial intelligence, 10,3% to logical-mathematical intelligence; 7,5% to interpersonal intelligence, 5,2% to musical intelligence and 5% to intrapersonal intelligence. No element of bodily intelligence or naturalistic intelligence was observed in the questions. As for the activities in 10th grade Turkish Literature lesson book, 54,35% had elements of linguistic intelligence, 13,4% had elements of interpersonal intelligence, 11% had elements of spatial intelligence, 9,45% had elements of logical-mathematical intelligence, 6,3% had elements of musical intelligence, 3.9% had elements of bodily intelligence, 0,8% had elements of intrapersonal intelligence and 0,8% had elements of naturalistic intelligence.In further studies, it is needed that these findings be supported and new lesson books containing questions and activities which will improve all intelligence areas of students be prepared.Key words: Multiple intelligence theory, intelligence, Turkish literature teaching, sub-text question, activity.
