Historiography in Medieval Andalusia

The aim of this thesis is to study the lives, works and the contributions of historiographers who grew up in medieval Andalusia, to the history science. To this end, in order to make the subject more comprehensible, first subjects such as the concept of history, various meanings attributed to this concept by different historians over time, and historiography are studied in general terms. It is not possible to evaluate Andalusian historiography completely regardless of these two since it is a part of world historiography and Islamic historiography. For this reason, at first, historiography and Islamic historiography from the past to the present were mentioned and consequently, it was seen that Andalusian historians were highly influenced by historians from other geographies of the Islamic world. Especially the Egyptian historians of the period had a great role in the beginning of historiography in Andalusia. The first period of the history of Andalusia was written largely by the aforementioned Egyptian historians. However, despite this influence, Andalusian historians have been quite successful in approaching the history of the geography they live in, independently from other Islamic geographies. III. Abdurrahman, his son II. Hakem and grandson II. Hişam The Andalusians, who started to write their own history during the Hisam period, took an intense interest in this field over time and increased their competence in historiography.
