Medical and pharmaceutical sector in Turkey written assessment of the works in the Middle Ages

The superstitions and superstitions believed in medicine and other sciences in ancient times continued in the Middle Ages. The fact that scholastic thought was a shadow over science hindered the development of science in Europe. Although medical science has been an area of interest throughout history in terms of protecting human health, medical science could not find the opportunity to develop due to the influence of the church and non-scientific beliefs in Medieval Europe. While the obstacles to the development of science in the West were listed, the factors that prevented the development of science in the Islamic world were removed in the East. Scientific studies have increased due to the fact that Islam is a religion that encourages science and learning. Due to the personal interests of some caliphs during the Umayyad State, an important step was taken in terms of the development of science by translating the works of ancient civilizations. In the Abbasid period, the translation activities of the works of ancient civilizations increased and translation activities were carried out in an organized manner. Thanks to the support given by the Abbasid caliphs to translation activities and scientific research, scientists were able to conduct research and make new discoveries. The studies carried out in this period formed the basis for the scientific studies carried out in the following periods and provided the development of many sciences. Scientific studies and discoveries made in the fields of medicine and pharmacy have deeply affected Europe. The studies of Muslim physicians and pharmacists in the Middle Ages were influential in the formation of modern medicine and pharmacy. In our thesis, different types of sources such as books, articles, postgraduate theses, encyclopedia articles and symposium papers written on medieval medicine and pharmacy were examined and evaluated by giving priority to the works written in the Middle Ages and published in Turkey.
