Optinions of high school 12th grade students about environmental problems (Ağrı city example)

This study aims evaluating and establishing ideas of high school 12th grade students who are in the period of university entrance exam about environmental problems, behaviour and ideal dimensions of their manners about environment. Also it is examined that if environmental behaviour and environmental ideas of these students show a meaningful difference or not according to their high school which they attend, their gender, job information and total monthly income of their parents.584 students who attend to 12th class of high schools in Ağrı?s city centre in 2009 ? 2010 education year forms the sample of this study. Questionnaire which consists of 4 parts was applied to students as a means of data gathering. While evaluating the data, frequency percentage groups, t-test, one-way analysis variance (ANOVA), Kruskal Wallis test, Mann Whitney U test and Tukey Test were used.Analysis results show that, according to high school 12th grade students, global warming is the most important environmental problem in the world, waste materials are the most important environmental problem in Turkey; to protect the environment is primarily responsibility of individuals and family is the most important group in developing the consciousness about protecting the environment. The students express that the education they get about environment is not sufficient but environment and people lessons should not be compulsory. The students? environmental behaviour shows a meaningful difference according to the high school they attend, job information of their parents. Their environmental ideas show a meaningful difference according to the high school they attend and their gender.Key Words: Environment, ecology, environmental education, manner.
