Abstract (EN)

In this study, the grammar books used in secondary education have been assessed in terms of linguistics and the validity of grammar subjects in the books has been examined scientifically. For this purpose, three different grammar books representing target population of study and consisting of eight volumes have been examined within the framework of titles of language case, phonology, phonetics, morphology and syntax. The results obtained in this study reveals that in preparation of grammar books used in secondary education, the principles and methods of linguistics have not been sufficiently referred, therefore there are many aspects not conforming to linguistics in course books. Besides this, it is found that the information in books often does not reflect actual studies related to time field, sometimes it is also in contradiction with traditional grammar preferred in preparation of books; and there are course book-specific factors not relying on linguistics and traditional grammar data in course books. The results of study reveals that the language in course books in general and the information related to Turkish language in particular must be relied on examinations and studies recently made; and it is required to apply for principles and methods of linguistics in preparation of course books. Keywords: Course book, grammar, linguistics, traditional grammar, secondary education.
