Contemporary art practices directed in high school arts lesson specification of teacher opinions

This study aims to analyze the process of contemporary art from 1960 to the present in the context of art, art movements, artist, work and art environment relations and to determine the views of teachers on contemporary art practices in the visual arts course. In the period we live in, it is seen that the elements of contemporary art have spread over a comprehensive application and theoretical field that cannot up to defined. In this direction, contemporary art includes many disciplines. Today, the complex and interdisciplinary structure of contemporary art requires the existence of knowledge on different disciplines such as philosophy, sociology and aesthetics. Art education processes such as this transformation of art depending on these building components, perception and analysis of art, artist, works of art, art environment conditions and thought structures within the scope of new aesthetic values are of great importance. The research was carried out as a literature review and it was tried to be determined based on the data on the place of contemporary art in the visual arts course and the views of visual arts teachers. This research was carried out by examining all kinds of written, printed publications and web resources related to contemporary art and visual arts education by using literature review from qualitative research designs. Afterwards, a semi-structured interview form consisting of 8 questions was used in order to determine the views of teachers on contemporary art practices in the 11th grade visual arts lesson. Interviews were conducted by consulting the opinions of 28 visual arts teachers. As a result of the interviews, the majority of the participants stated that they included contemporary art practices in the 11th grade visual arts course. However, it has been revealed that contemporary art practices are not adequately included in the visual arts course and student motivation for the course is low.
