The democratic attitudes of the teachers working in secondary education schools

This research is a descriptive study which aims to determine the democratic attitudes of the teachers working in secondary education schools. The research is made in secondary education schools which are in 2002-2003 educational year. In this environment, 207 branch teachers who are selected with random groups and who work in 11 secondary education schools constitude the research. The necessary data for this research are gained by applying the scale which is improved by the researcher. The scale consists of two parts. The first part consists of personal information and second parts consists of 19 democratic attitude sentences. The findings that are gained by research can be summarized like this: Teachers who are working at secondary schools are valued according to attitude points which they take from 19 attitude sentences dealed with Participation, Being Scientific, Equality, Responsibility of State to Individual, Differentiation and Justice sub-scales. It can be said that teachers are participants, tolerant (no look after between race, language, religion, social class etc.); have scientific thinking, equality; giving importance to justice and responsibility of state to individual With respect to the type of the school they work, participating in-service training, marital status and seniorty, there cannot br found any meaningful differences between the attitudes regarding to the sub-scales such as Participation, Equality, Being Scientific, Differentiation, Responsibility of State to Individual and Justice. The differences between the attitude points of "Being Scientific" sub-scale is found meaningful in favor of Art-Music-Physical Education teachers. There cannot be found any meaningful differences between the attitude points of the teachers that they take from sub-scales which are Participation, Differentiation, Responsibility of State to Individual, Being Scientific, Justice with respect to their ages. The differences between the attitude points of "Equality" sub-scale is found meaningful in favor of 21-25 age group teachers. With respect to their sex, the difference between the attitude points of the teachers that take from sub-scales which are Participation, Being Scientific, Equality, Responsibility of State to Individual, Justice cannot be found meaningful.
