IIABSTRACTThis study investigates the relationship between the personal characteristics, jobconditions, educational status and job satisfaction levels of counselors and guidingteachers employed at secondary and high schools in the Southeastern Anatolia Region.Subsequently, with the obtained information, it is targeted to find out themeasures and policies that will increase the efficiency of services in this field.The research is carried out in the educational year of 2005-2006 and coverscounselors who are employed at secondary and high schools in the cities of Ad yaman,Batman, Diyarbak r, Gaziantep, Kilis, Mardin, Siirt, anl urfa and rnak, which are alllocated in the Southeastern Anatolia Region. The obtained results are based on the JobSatisfaction Scale developed by Kuzgun, Sevim and Hamamc in 1998.The data obtained from the 9 cities in the Southeastern Anatolia Region isanalyzed using the SPSS software. In the statistical analysis, when the independentvariables, which have two variables, are compared (gender, educational level, maritalstatus) t-test is used. On the other side, when the independent variables, which havemore than two variables are compared, single dimensional variance analysis is used.Significance level used in the hypothesis tests is assumed to be 0.05.This study has revealed that the job satisfaction level of counselors who areemployed at high schools in the Southeastern Anatolia Region does not significantlydepend on factors such as education status, department of graduation, seniority,frequency of attending services-related activities, gender, marital status, city of birth,city in which the school is located, type of the school, level of satisfaction with themonthly salary. Moreover, it is observed that the counselors are generally satisfied withtheir jobs.Considering these results, proper actions should be taken in order to improvevocational training programmes and job conditions of counselors / guiding teachersemployed at secondary and high schools.
