Administrators' opinions on the applicability of disciplinary rules in secondary education institutions in terms of current disciplinary approaches

The purpose of this study is to examine the opinions of administrators regarding the applicability of the disciplinary rules in the Secondary Education Institutions Regulation in terms of disciplinary approaches. For this purpose, administrators' views on disciplinary legislation were examined in depth in the context of the concept of discipline, disciplinary problems in schools, disciplinary practices and disciplinary approaches. This study was conducted with qualitative research method. In this study, the phenomenology design was used. The study group of the research consists of 12 assistant principals working in public secondary education institutions in Samsun. All assistant principals serve as the Chairman of the Disciplinary Board. Research data was collected by interview technique. A semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher was used as a data collection tool. Content analysis method was used to analyze the data. MAXQDA program was used in the data editing process. Participants used various expressions when defining the concept of discipline. Research participants cited various reasons for the need for discipline at school. Different practices aiming to prevent and solve disciplinary problems at school are emphasized. Participants suggest that the current Disciplinary Regulation be updated within the framework of the preventive discipline approach.
