Özet (EN)
The purpose of this study is to investigate to what extend a group of prospective secondary mathematics teachers benefit from the offered undergraduate geometry courses in their program, and to illustrate the differences and similarities between these courses and the geometry courses they will be teaching when they become mathematics teachers. The participants were five prospective secondary mathematics teachers from a secondary education mathematics program at a metropolitan public university in Turkey. For collecting data participants are given a test that is formed with the questions in ÖSS in years 1985-2006, and later the researcher interviewed with the participants to learn how they can use the courses in university.Data is analyzed with the technique called Open Coding that is a technique of Grounded theory. To do this, transcripts obtained from the interviews, are coded sentence by sentence by the investigator and her friend who is a graduate student in the same university and similar data is put together. After this, the data collected from the interviews, grouped according to the similarities and differences with their dimensions and then categorized. These categories are compared with each other and findings and interpreting are obtained:1.Prospective mathematics teachers think that the courses in the university are too academic and they don?t pay attention to the application.2.Prospective mathematics teachers can not find out the connection between the geometry courses in the university and the lessons they will teach when they will be teachers in secondary school.3.Prospective mathematics teachers want to know how they will teach the main concepts in high school geometry. Finally, with the help of the interpreting, as consequences of this study we give some suggestions to overcome the difficulties that appear during the educations. Some of the suggestions are given in the following:1.The geometry classes that are given the students in Education Faculties are suggested to be considered.2.The geometry classes are suggested to be more practical instead of academic lessons.3.In Faculties of Education especially in Department of Mathematics a class may be given to prospective teachers about high school geometry.4.A class may be given to prospective teachers about the instruction of some basic geometric concepts in high school geometry.Key words: Prospective Teachers, Geometry Courses, Geometry Education Aimed At Secondary School Geometry
