Relationship between high school students' perceived teacher closeness behavior, their attitudes towards school and academic motivations

Abstract (EN)

This research was conducted with the relational screening model in order to determine the relationship between the perceived teacher closeness behaviors of the secondary school students and the students' attitudes towards school and academic motivation. It is a quantitative study. The research was conducted with a total of 680 students, 323 girls and 357 boys, studying in different types of secondary education in Kocaeli in the 2023-2024 academic year. Within the scope of the research, a form consisting of 90 questions in total, including the Personal Information Form, Academic Motivation Scale, Teacher Closeness Behaviors Scale and Attitude Towards School Scale, was applied to the students and the obtained data were analyzed using the SPSS 27 program. In order to see the differences in the group means of the variables, independent samples t-test and one-way anova analysis were applied. Pearson correlation analysis was applied in order to determine the level of relationship between the scales. As a result, a positive and moderate relationship between academic motivation and teacher closeness behaviors perceived by the students; It was found that there was a positive and moderate relationship between attitudes towards school and teacher closeness behaviors perceived by students; and a positive and moderate relationship between attitudes towards school and academic motivation.
