Relationship between perceived school climate and adoption levels of human values by secondary school students

Özet (EN)

The main aim of the research is to determine the relationship between perception of school climate and adoption levels of human values of secondary school students. For this purpose, ?Perceived School Climate Scale?, developed by Çalık and Kurt (2000, s.177), and ?Human Values scale?, developed by Dilmaç (2007, s.71) were used. This research was conducted on a total of 1094 students from general high schools, vocational high schools, science high schools and Anatolian schools in province of Elazığ. Data were analyzed by using percentage, frequency, arithmetic mean, t-test, ANOVA, Mann-Whitney?s U Test, Kruskal Wallis? H Test, correlation analysis and Multiple Regression Analysis. According to the findings; students have not seen an adequate levels of school climate dimensions, which are supportive teacher behaviors, achievement-oriented and safety learning environment. Supportive teacher behaviors have been perceived by students in a lower degree. Students who are studying in different types of high school had significantly different perceptions on school climate. Also, students who are ongoing on different types of high school had different perceptions on levels of adoption to human values such as responsibility, respect, tolerance, honesty. According to results of correlation and regression analysis; perceived school climate associated with students? adoption levels of human values. It was concluded that perceived school climate was a significant predictor of adoption of human values in secondary schools. Keywords: Perceived School Climate, Human Values, Secondary Schools
