Abstract (EN)

Purpose: In the times we live, bullying behaviors, discourses and actions in and around the school environment are very high. In our schools where peer bullying is experienced, one of the basic duties in terms of education, raising physically and mentally healthy individuals and the sense of being safe, which is the human right of each student, is damaged personally. The purpose of this research is to investigate peer bullying in secondary education in terms of personal and environmental factors affecting being a bully/victim, and to examine the relationship between being a bully/victim. Method: The research includes 257 volunteer students from secondary schools in Samsun Terme District in the 2020-2021 academic year. "Peer Bullying Scale Adolescent Form" and "Personal Information Form" which includes socio-demographic characteristics created by the researchers were used for data collection. Results: According to the results of our study, while the sub-dimensions of the Peer Bullying Scale differ according to the gender of the students and the school they attend, age groups, the number of siblings, the education level of the parents, the education level of the parents, the perception of family income and the perception of school success. Found to differ according to in addition, a moderately strong positive relationship was found between the Bullying Scale and the Victimization Dimension of the Peer Bullying Scale. This indicates the vicious circle between being a bully and being a victim. Conclusion: It stands out that the phenomenon of peer bullying may be related to many personal, familial and environmental factors, so it should be handled with an interdisciplinary approach and more solution-oriented. It may be helpful to conduct more in-depth studies in which students as well as teachers and families are involved in a candid and realistic way. In addition, preventive and preventive studies to be developed specifically for each region; It is envisaged that awareness-raising programs to be developed with educational and psychosocial support environments and effective use of social media will be effective and beneficial.
