Abstract (EN)
The purpose of the study is to determine the effects of placement tests (SBS) on families end their children attending to the 6, 7, 8th grade of the primary schools. Moreover, it is planned to see the thoughts and feelings and the behavioral change that occur in their social lives. The sample of this study is composed of 359 parents from six elementary schools selected from Çankaya and Keçiören districts in Ankara, in the 2009-2010 academic year. The data was collected through a questionnaire consisting of 2 main parts. In the first part; it is related to families demographic information and questions about the exam consists of preparatory work. In the second part, "Examination-Oriented Scale of Perceived Importance (SYAÖ): Parent Form" which was developed by Ural and Erktin (2002) was used.In the context of preparation to the placement exam, the frequency and duration of the studies of species distribution and percentage of parents with the amount of their expenses are tabulated according to the characteristics of data. Moreover, parents' behavioral changes that occur in social life, feelings and thoughts related to the test shows us the frequency and the percentage distributions on the table. As a result of research findings obtained from the collected 359 questionnaires; 62% of the students attended the lecture, 18% of them went to study or course and 11% of them had private lessons. Their total annual average expenditure for this is 2928 TL.According to the findings, children don?t have enough time for activities with family, reading, doing sports and others. This test that is observed by the parents is affecting the children adversely. Nearly, half of the parents consider the notes in terms of school success should be added to the calculation; whereas, approximately the 3/5 of the other half thought that it isn?t fair to add these notes into calculation. The preparation of the exam is compelling both the parents and the students, and this situation makes not only the students but also the parents stressful and worried. Parents change their social life according to the child's test preparation programs; and edit a new life, so exam preparation affects the entire life of the family. Moreover, the majority of parents say that the first step to be successful in the university entrance exam is to be successful in this test, and they think that success of the placement test determines their future and business life, therefore, parents have emotional distress for their children?s educational experiences in the future. In light of these findings, some scientific researches are presented for transition to the secondary education system that can be applied in the future.
