Investigation of television viewing habits of middle school 5th grade students

Due to the necessity of our information age WE re in, there is one television in each hous and it always preserves, its place in the corner of the living rooms; and olso its having ab effective power on masses, its being reachable for allages and its being indispensable in people's lives are the reasons to make the television, wich in called as the opium of 21 st century, focal point of the thesis. It's obvious that television has never lost its importance and even ıts importance increased day by day. The questions such as how children use TV, wich programmes they prefer to watch and in what way these programmes affect the children most become more important today. The purpusse of the research is to determine whether there are any differences betweeon the children in terms of the determined veriables by examining the television habits of middle school 5 th grode students taking into consideration of different variables. Semi interviewed form named as "determining the use of TV for secondary school students" was used as a data collection tool which was reformed by the researcher. Data were transferred to a computer and made ready for analysis usining Nvivo programme. As a result it is passible to see that although the types of TV programmes the students watch differ, the reasons behind the students' TV watching behaviours show similarities. It's commonly accepted that the students' reasons to love the TV series are mainly because they find them exciting, to love the cartoons are mainly because they find them funny and exciting. It had understood that many students don't find the TV series and cartoons realistic; and also although they are aware of benefits, disadvantoges 2 importance of watching TV, they don't impose them in their lives.
