The investigation of 6th grade students' awareness about turkish subject listening skill

Listening is thought to be the most important skill children should acquire. Listening skills which will systematically be given to students starting from the first grade of primary school will enable them to be more successful in social relations and learning lives. The change in students' listening awareness according to certain independent variables has been the primary target of this study. In this study, descriptive survey model which is in accordance with quantitative research method has been used. The study has been carried out with 800 randomly selected students in secondary schools in Nilüfer, Osmangazi and Yıldırım districts in Bursa in 2017/2018 education fall or spring term, determined according to convenience sampling method in purposive sampling methods."Listening Skills Awareness Questionnaire" was used to collect the data in the study. SPSS package program has been used in the analysis of the acquired data. T-test, ANOVA and Welch tests have been used to reveal the differences between frequency, percentage and arithmetic mean analysis in data's descriptive statistical methods and independent variables. As a result of the research, the total scores of the participants regarding their listening skills' awareness does not significantly differentiate according to the variables of education of their mothers, number of siblings, living status of someone other than the nuclear family, frequency of listening to music, type of TV program being watched; while total scores of participants for listening skills awareness' significantly differentiates according to the variables of gender, father's education status, the availability of his own room, the frequency of reading books, the type of periodicals subscribed and followed, the availability of his own bookshelf, the frequency of mother's and father's reading books , magazines and newspaper, frequency of using tablet, phone and computer, and status of enjoying listening the problems of friends and relatives. Some suggestions have been made based on the results of the research.
