Abstract (EN)

The aim of the study is to in vestigate the effect of story telling methods in the middle school 7th grade students' academic success in social studies lesson. In this study only "Journey of Turkish History" unit is covered which is based on the method of storytelling. Experimental design was used, in order to find out story telling method in social studies lesson is more effective on academic success than lecturing through out the research. Experimental and control groups consisting of 81 students each and total of 162 students were selected randomly. The studying continued during for 5 weeks. In the experimental group, the stories that selected were presented. In the control group, lecturing continued. Pre test and post test was done before and after this studying. "T test" and "analysis of covariance (ANCOVA)" was used for to understand the difference between the pretest and post test in the SPSS 15.0. The result proved that, story telling method has positive effect on academic success of the students.
