Abstract (EN)
This research was done in order to determine misconceptions about the subject of algebraic expressions in Maths lesson of the 8th grade students of middle school. The research was done on the students of Gülgün Nihat Ömür Secondary School and Mobil Seconday School at province of Kepez, in the city of Antalya. A recognition test was applied on the students of 8th students consisting of 15 topics. SPSS 20 program was used in the analysis of the study. The model of the archives is the general screening model. In the case of algebraic expressions, it is a subordinate problem of investigating whether there is a meaningful difference between conceptual misconceptions of 8th grade students according to gender variable and mathematics achievement levels. According to the findings of the research, it was found that the gender variable does not make a meaningful difference about concept misconceptions and that students don't become misconceptions as the level of mathematical achievement increases. According to results of the research, it has been determined that the students have various misconceptions about algebraic expressions. It was notified that students can't mathematically construct identity expressions and have difficulties in modeling. It is also notified that they have difficulty separating the multipliers. In addition, it has been found that the they have fallen into conceptual misconceptions about separating multipliers and simplifying rational algebraic expressions. Some suggestions were made for these conceptial mistakes.
