Investigation of eighth grade secondary school reading comprehension and science achievements the evaluation of some variables

The aim of this research is to try to determine ınvestigation of eighth grade secondary school reading comprehension and science achievements the evaluation of some variables. Thus, this research is based on the relational screening model.The study group of this research consists of 152 secondary school students determined via systematic random(stratified) sampling method from schools, which is affiliated to the National Ministry of Education, having different socio-economical levels and located in Van city center in 2018- 2019 academic year. Reading Comprehension Test and Science Achievement Test were used for getting data for the research. SPSS 22.0 software programme was used for analysing the data. Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient was estimated in order to understand the evaluation of some variables "reading comprehension" and "the science achievement". Furthermore, Frequency (f), Percentage (%), Alfa, t-test (t), the One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) (depending on the homogenity of the data) were used. At the end of the research, the results below were found: there was a moderate relation between the reading comprehension and science achievement scores (r= 0,57, p=0.003). There was not a clear difference between reading comprehension achievement scores according to whether they have difficulty or not and the school's socio-economical features, and there was a clear difference between science achievement scores according to whether they have had difficulty of understanding what they read and the school's socio-economical features. There was not a clear difference between reading comprehension achievement scores according to gender variable, the type of book and frequency of reading a book, and there was not a clear difference between science achievement scores according to gender variable, the type of book and frequency of reading a book.
