Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this study was to determine the number sense levels of 8th-grade middle school students according to different number groups and the relationship between them. The research was conducted using a quantitative survey design. The study sample consisted of 460 students actively attending 10 public middle schools in the Central Anatolia Region during the 2024-2025 academic year. Data were collected using a 15-item four tier number sense test developed by the researcher after a pilot study. Data were collected over a six-week period, and were analyzed using quantitative methods. Findings indicated that students' number sense levels were relatively high. The results of the study indicate a strong relationship between natural numbers number sense, fractions-decimals-percentage number sense, and exponential-radical number number sense. Accordingly, it can be recommended that the strategies used by students in the solution process be diversified and targeted teaching activities be carried out to identify and eliminate the misconceptions that they encounter, especially in natural numbers, exponential and radical expressions, and fraction, decimal, and percentage representation.
