Intertextuality in creative texts of 8th grade students

Text is a meaningful structure produced by a person or people in written or verbal form by means of communicative approach. Text is a communication device which is formed by sentences in order to communicate by language in different levels. Language units, which can be ranged from sound to paragraph, is used to form a text. Paragraphs are made by putting sentences in a meaningful order in a text. There are ordered sentences in paragraph which are used to enhance the main idea. Paragraphs are units of notion in a text. Unity of language, idea and meaning is ensured when passing from one paragraph to another. We have introduction, body and conclusion parts in a paragraph. Paragraphs in a text can be long or short depending on the topic which is explained. There are paragraphs which consist of a couple of sentences as well as the ones which consist of only one sentence. A text (article, anecdote, conversation, essay, short story, novel etc.) is formed when paragraphs are put together. Every single text has a main idea. Other supporting ideas are also used to enhance main idea. Main idea can be directly expressed as a sentence or it can be deduced from the context. A text consists of introduction, body and conclusion parts. We can talk about many important and proving specifications which a text must have. These criterions are called textuality criterion in literature. These are; homogeneity, consistency, purposefulness, acceptability and intertextuality criterion. In order to call a group of paragraphs as text, these criterions are expected to be met. Intertextuality can be described as having different texts in a reader's mind when he/she is reading a text. Intertextuality is a situation where a text is related to the one that comes before the text. Every text is the result of the environment that reader and writer live in. From this point of view, every single text is in a interaction with a text that has been written beforehand. That's why, knowing how much students provide intertextuality will be guide for the researches that will be conducted in this area. Purpose of the work is to understand how much students use the concept "intertextuality" in creative texts.
