Abstract (EN)

The aim of this research is to determine the attitudes of Syrian students studying at the secondary school level towards Turkish lessons. The questions included in the study were designed to understand the attitudes of Syrian students towards Turkish lessons and the reasons for these attitudes. In this research, exploratory mixed method, one of the mixed method Decodings in which both quantitative and qualitative research methods are used together, was used. The study is in the screening model. In order to obtain quantitative data, the attitude scale towards the Turkish lesson was used, and a semi-structured interview form was used to obtain qualitative data. The study group consists of 208 randomly selected Syrian secondary school students from Gazi Secondary School, Asef Çoban Secondary School, Mehmetçik Secondary School, Akyol Secondary School, Şahinbey Secondary School and Ünler Secondary School in Şahinbey district of Gaziantep province who are studying in the 2022-2023 academic year, as well as from Şahinbey Secondary School and Şahitkamil district who are studying in Şahinbey district of Gaziantep province. In the quantitative part of the research, during the data collection process, 208 Syrian secondary school students were reached through attitude scales towards Turkish lessons with the help of teachers working in the relevant secondary schools, and the data were collected. In addition, face-to-face interviews were conducted with 10 secondary school students and their attitudes towards Turkish lessons were examined in depth for their reasons. As a result of the analysis of the data, it was found that the attitudes of Syrian students towards Turkish lessons were generally positive and above average. It has been revealed that the Turkish lesson attitude levels of the students do not differ according to gender and paternal education level. Turkish language As a result of the analysis of qualitative data, it has been determined that most of the students believe that Turkish lessons are necessary and they think that they should learn Turkish as their mother tongue in order to express themselves. In addition, from the students' opinions, it has been determined that the functioning of the Turkish lesson is instructive, not boring, and the lesson is more fun when there are visuals in the reading parts.
