Abstract (EN)

The concept of inequality of opportunity in education is a wide field of study with economic, social and political dimensions. Especially in the inequality of education, income levels of families, inter-regional differences, cultural level and opportunities provided by the state play a big role. In this study, after the conceptual framework for the training concept of equality of opportunity and inequality in Turkey it is aimed to study the inequality of opportunity in education. Because the subject was a large research area and because of its limitations, it was studied on the students in the middle school level selected in Kastamonu province. As a result of the increasing number of students in private schools, the opportunity to explore facilities and opportunities in state and private schools has arisen. A questionnaire was applied to the students by asking the family, individual facilities and the opportunities offered by the school and the results were interpreted by frequency and correlation analysis. According to the findings, regional, economic, differences, opportunities provided by the family, and most importantly, the opportunities provided by the school were effective in student achievement. It was seen that the opportunities provided by the school affected the success rather than individual opportunities and facilities. The economic and cultural characteristics of the parents, the facilities offered by the schools and the student's life area can be listed if it is desirable to rank among the factors of inequality of opportunity.
