The effect of socio-economic status and family participation on academic success of secondary students

The main objective of this research is to examine the relationship between the socioeconomic status, academic achievement, and parental involvement levels of middle school students' parents. To achieve this goal, a relational survey model was used, and 428 parents were reached through simple random sampling. Of these parents, 364 were female and 48 were male. When examining the gender distribution of the students, it was observed that 205 were female and 223 were male. Permissions were obtained from relevant departments before data collection for this voluntary study. Informed Consent Form, Demographic Information Form, and 'Parent Form of School and Family Participation Scale in Primary Education' were respectively administered to participating parents. SPSS 24.00 was used for data analysis. The concept of socioeconomic status addressed in the study was measured by income level, and academic achievement was measured by grade point average. The analysis revealed that the demographic variables examined in the study led to significant differences. The findings and results related to the variables examin0ed in the study are explained in the results section. Additionally, it was found that socio-economic status and academic achievement were related to parental involvement. The relevant results have been discussed in detail with the support of the literature in the discussion section, and recommendations have been provided in the final part of the research.
