Investigation of the examination of the relationship between secondary school students' physical education course attitudes and sportsmanship behaviors

The benefits of physical education and sportsmanship for individuals of all ages are significant. These benefits can be physical, mental, and social. Based on these considerations, the purpose of the current study was to examine the relationship between middle school students' attitudes toward physical education and sportsmanship behaviors. A correlational screening model was employed in this study. The study group consisted of 279 individuals (149 females, 130 males), selected through simple sampling. The study used the "Personal Information Form," the "Physical Education Class Attitude Scale for Secondary School Students," and the "Physical Education Class Sportsmanship Behavior Scale." T-Test and ANOVA tests were applied to evaluate both the students' physical education class and sportsmanship behaviors in the study. Additionally, the relationship between the scales was evaluated using the Structural Equation Model (SEM). According to the results of the T-Test, it was determined that there were no significant differences in physical education class attitudes and sportsmanship behaviors by gender. However, when the students' sportsmanship behaviors were examined during classes, significant differences were found in both physical education class attitudes and sportsmanship behaviors. According to the SEM analysis results, the path coefficient between the PSAS and BEDSS was found to be statistically significant. In conclusion, we can say that attitude towards physical education class significantly predicts sportsmanship behaviors in physical education class.
