Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between the algebraic thinking levels and critical thinking levels of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. The processes of understanding mathematical concepts and solving problems are directly related not only to algebraic thinking skills but also to the competence of critical thinking. In this context, the research aims to examine students' proficiency in both types of thinking and to offer suggestions for instructional strategies that can support the development of these skills. The study was conducted within the framework of a relational survey model and includes 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students studying in various middle schools in Turkey during the 2023–2024 academic year. Data were collected using the "Algebraic Thinking Scale for Middle School Students" and the "Critical Thinking Disposition Scale." The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS program. Pearson correlation coefficient and regression analyses were used in the analysis process. Research findings revealed that there is a significant and positive relationship between students' algebraic thinking levels and their critical thinking levels. This finding indicates that critical thinking is an important component for students to be more effective in mathematical thinking processes. Algebraic thinking can support students' analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, contributing to their ability to deal with real-life problems.
